Wild lamp grass is a medicinal material frequently used in traditional Chinese medicine and is often used to treat various diseases. So today I would like to share with you some information about wild lamp grass.

[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Juncus effusus of the Juncaceae family.

[Original form] Juncus effusus is an annual herb, 5-20cm tall. The fibrous roots are thin and weak. The stem is erect or ascending, often reddish brown at the base. Leaves are basal and cauline; leaf blades are ± flattened, linear, 2-5 cm long and about 1 mm wide. Flowers are arranged in loose or dense dichotomous inflorescences at the top of the branches; flowers are 3-7mm long, with 3 ovate membranous bracts; 6 perianths, 3 in the outer whorl, needle-shaped, with pointed apex and membranous margins, and 3 in the inner whorl, almost entirely membranous, with blunt apex; 6 stamens, half the length of the perianth segments, and the anther is 1/3-1/2 the length of the filament. The capsule is triangular-oblong, almost as long as the inner perianth segments. The seeds are obovate, about 0.4 mm long. Flowering and fruiting period is from April to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in wet places near river banks or ponds.

【Chemical composition】 Contains luteolin-7-glucoside, β-carotene, cryptoxanthin, auroxanthin, neoxanthin, flavoxanthin, chrysanthemaxanthin, violaxanthin, α-carotene-5,8-epoxide, β-sitosterol and stigmasterol.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; Cool

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat; relieves stranguria; promotes urination; stops bleeding. Mainly used for heat stranguria; painful urination; edema; hematuria

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3-6g.
