[Properties] The stem of this product is square, often curved or slightly curved, and often broken. It is 5 to 20 cm long and 2 to 4 mm in diameter. The surface is yellow-green with a slight purple-red, and the nodes are darker purple, densely covered with white soft hairs. It is hard and brittle, and dust flies when broken. The cross section is yellow-white and flat, and the center is white and loose. The leaves are opposite, broadly ovate or oblong, 1.3 to 4 cm long, with crenate or serrated edges and covered with short soft hairs. The cyme is capitate or spike-shaped, 3 to 10 cm long; the bracts are obovate or lanceolate, with 3 to 8 small teeth on each side, and the tooth tips have thorns; the flowers are lip-shaped, light yellow, with 3-lobed upper lip and 2-lobed lower lip. The seeds are dark brown, long oval, about 3mm long and 1.2mm wide. It has a unique aroma and a light, slightly astringent taste.
