Apex pointed or slightly pointed, base membranous, sheath-like, entire, glabrous, nearly sessile; leaves at lower stem usually 3, linear-lanceolate or narrowly linear-spatulate, 5-9cm long, sessile; leaves at upper stem bract-like, linear-subulate, 1-1.5cm long. The inflorescence is medium-sized, solitary at the end of the stem, drooping; the involucre is hemispherical, 2.5-3cm in diameter; there is one layer of bracts, broadly lanceolate, 12-15mm long, slightly pointed, purple, covered with dark purple long hairs, nearly black when dry, covered with dark purple long hairs, nearly black when dry; the florets are tubular, orange-yellow, about 8mm long.
