[Alias] Stone peacock tail (Luchuan Materia Medica), fairy chicken tail, golden powder fern (Guangxi Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine Pile), string fish grass, human head grass, golden flower grass (Yunnan Traditional Chinese Medicine Selection), small golden flower grass, fire soup fern, line chicken tail grass, black fern (Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine Records), wind tail grass, native coptis root, peacock tail (Fujian Traditional Chinese Medicine), six-level grass, small wild chicken tail grass (Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine), detoxification fern, fire injury fern (Guangxi New Selection of Practical Chinese Herbal Medicines).

[Source] It is the whole herb of Pheasantha chinensis, a plant of the Chinese Pteridaceae family. Harvest in autumn.

[Original form] Perennial herb, about 1 meter high. The rhizome is horizontal, spreading and long, and covered with brown scales. Petioles are distal, 15-30 cm long, straw-colored, or brown-brown at base, glabrous; leaves are herbaceous to sub-leathery, glabrous, green. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate or triangular-lanceolate, 10-30 cm long, 6-15 cm wide, and pinnately divided 3-4 times; the lower pinnae are lanceolate-triangular, obliquely spreading, with many pinnae and lobes, the last lobe is 4-8 mm long, about 1-2 mm wide, with a short tip at the tip. The sori are short, the operculum linear, membranous, and parallel to the midrib.

[Habitat distribution] It mostly grows on damp stones beside old houses, roadsides, and ditches. Distributed south of the Qinling Mountains, north of Guangdong, as well as in Shanxi, Taiwan and other places.

[Nature and flavor] "Luchuan Materia Medica": "bitter, cold. (Leaves, slightly sweet)."

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, promotes dampness, detoxifies and stops bleeding. Treat wind-heat cold, acute gastroenteritis, dysentery, jaundice, hemoptysis, hematemesis, bloody stool, hematuria, furuncle, and swelling and pain due to trauma.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 0.5-1 liang (1-2 liang for fresh product, 4-8 liang for large dose). For external use: mash and apply or grind into powder and apply.

【Note】 Do not use in patients with deficiency-cold syndrome.

[Additional prescription] ① Treating wind-heat cold: Take 1 liang of whole herb of Phoenix tail and stalk, decoct in water and drink. (Fujian Chinese Herbal Medicine)
