[Source] It is a paste made by boiling the leaves of the Fagaceae plant Quercus alpina . Available all year round.

[Original form] Evergreen tree, up to 30 meters high. When growing on open mountaintops, it often appears as a shrub; young branches have rusty soft hairs. Simple leaves are alternate, elliptic to oblong, 3-8 cm long, 1.5-3 cm wide, rounded or obtuse at the apex, rounded to shallowly cordate at the base, entire or serrated, with rusty soft hairs when young, and waxy rusty fine hairs only on the underside except for the midrib when old, with 6-8 pairs of lateral veins; petiole is short. The flowers are monoecious; the male inflorescence is a drooping catkin; the female flowers are 1 to 2, clustered in the leaf axils. There are 1 to 3 fruits borne on a 0.5-1 cm long peduncle; the cupule is disc-shaped, surrounding the base of the nut, and the inner surface is densely covered with pubescence; the bracts are ovate-oblong to lanceolate, obtuse, separated from the cupule at the apex, and spread out; the nuts mature in the same year, are spherical, about 2.5 cm in diameter, with a short tip, and are glabrous.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in mixed woods on hillsides. Distributed in Sichuan, Yunnan, Tibet and other places.

[Preparation method] Take the leaves and put them into boiling water, boil for 30 to 45 minutes, take them out, and take new leaves and cook as above until the boiling water becomes a sticky paste, and the sediment is concentrated into a paste for later use.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, neutral.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies. Treat diarrhea, enteritis and asthma with mixed cold and heat. The seeds can also be used as medicine, with the same function.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral administration: dilute with boiled water, 3 to 5 fen.
