[Original form] Upright small shrub, 1-3m high. Branchlets initially hairy, becoming reddish brown when dry, rough, with short internodes. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 3-7mm long and hairy; stipules are lanceolate, red, nearly glabrous, and 8mm long; leaf blades are papery, linear-lanceolate, 5-13cm long, 8-16mm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, gradually narrowed or rounded at the base, slightly shiny above, with small bumps below, usually reddish brown after drying, all linear; lateral veins are 7-17 pairs, slender, and the reticulate veins are obvious below. The inflorescence receptacle is ovoid, slightly ribbed on the surface, 7-8mm in diameter, dark red when mature, with an umbilical protrusion on the top, basal bracts triangular, persistent, and 2-6mm long; male flowers and gall flowers are borne on the inner wall of the same inflorescence receptacle, male flowers are borne near the mouth, with 3-4 tepals, 2 stamens, rarely 3; thin flowers have 3-4 tepals, ovary degenerate, style extremely short, lateral; female flowers are borne in the inflorescence receptacle of another plant, with 4 tepals, rarely 5, linear, and obtuse at the apex. Ovary obovate, style lateral. Achenes nearly spherical, ridged at tip. Flowering period is from April to July.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in moist places beside streams or on roadsides on hillsides.
