Thornless shrub, 1-2m tall. The twigs are gray-yellow, initially covered with rusty stellate hairs which gradually fall off. Leaves are dimorphic; petioles are slender, 4.5-10cm long; leaf blades are papery or thinly leathery; undivided leaf blades are lanceolate, ovate-lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, 7-20cm long, 1.5-5cm wide, convex or long acuminate at the apex, and rounded or broadly cuneate at the base; divided leaf blades are palmately 2-3 deeply lobed, with narrow lanceolate lobes, green above and light green below, covered with dense rusty stellate hairs on both sides when young, later the hairs on the upper side become sparse, and the margins have sharp teeth; three-veined, with 8-16 pairs of lateral veins, not obvious. The panicle is terminal, with dense rusty stellate hairs on the main axis, which becomes hairless later; there are 2-5 umbels, 3 cm in diameter, with 20-30 flowers, and small thorns on the inflorescence axis; the calyx is 2.5 mm long, sparsely rusty and stellate hairs, with 5 triangular teeth on the edge; there are 5 petals, green, triangular-ovate, 2.5-5 mm long; there are 5 stamens, and the filaments are 1.5-2 mm long; the ovary is inferior, 2-chambered, rarely 3-chambered; the styles are connate into a column. The fruit is spherical, 8mm in diameter, and black when ripe. The seeds are spherical, flowering period is June-July, and fruiting period is July-August.
