[Original form] Scutellaria baicalensis with willow leaves and red stems, perennial herb, 25-50cm tall. The stem is erect, obtusely quadrangular, grooved, often water red, almost glabrous or slightly pubescent. Leaves usually in 4 pairs; petiole 0.7-1.2cm long, water red, concave ventrally and convex dorsally, covered with glandular pubescence; leaf blade narrow, oblong or lanceolate, 5-9.8cm long, 1-1.6cm wide, acuminate at apex, cuneate at base, margin entire or with 2-4 sparse shallow serrations. Flowers are opposite, arranged in racemes or axillary, inflorescence 9-15cm long; bracts are degenerate; calyx is often purple-red in flowering, about 2mm long, and enlarged in fruit; corolla is purple-red at the rim but the tube is light or white, 1.5-1.7cm long, and covered with fine soft hairs on the outside; stamens are 4, didyna, filaments are flat, and ciliated below the middle; disk is thick, finger-like and elongated in front, and may exceed the ovary; ovary is smooth. The nutlets are triangular-ovate and tuberculate. The flowering period is April and the fruiting period is May.
