[Source] It is the whole herb of Bupleurum chinense, a plant of the Asteraceae family. Harvested in summer and autumn.

[Original morphology] Perennial erect herb, 30 to 50 cm tall, with white latex oozing out when the whole plant is broken. The roots are long and thick, deep in the soil and can be up to 60 cm long. Several stems grow in clusters, have ridges, and are covered with long, coarse brown hairs. Simple leaves are alternate, oblanceolate or even linear-oblanceolate, 5-7 cm long, 0.5-1 cm wide, acuminate or long acuminate at the apex, narrowly cuneate at the base, extending downward into a short petiole; leaf margins are sparsely toothed. The capitula is arranged in bifurcated cymose corymbs; the involucre is bell-shaped, with 2 rows of bracts, linear, short outside and long inside; all flowers are ligulate, the corolla is yellow, the achenes are slender columnar, dark brown, with fine ridges, and abundant white pappus.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in grass on hillsides or under pine forests. Distributed in Yunnan and other places.
