[Source] Medicinal material source: The root bark of Pinus yunnanensis.

[Original form] A tree, up to 40m tall, with a chest circumference of up to 1m. The bark is rough, dark gray-brown, with irregular deep longitudinal cracks; the annual branches are pink or light brown-red and hairy. The leaves are linear, arranged in two rows on the side branches, 2-6.5 cm long, 2-3.5 mm wide, with an acute blunt tip at the apex (sharp tip of leaves of young trees and sprouting targets), 2-10 stomatal lines above, 14-19 stomatal bands below, and raised midribs on both sides. Monoecious; male cones grow in clusters at branch tips or leaf axils, female cones grow upright and solitary at the tops of short branches. The cones are cylindrical, erect, 9-20cm long and 4-6.5cm in diameter. The seed scales are oblique-ovate, gradually narrowing at the top, recurved at the apex, with fine serrations on the edges, and the back of the scales is partially exposed and covered with hair or almost hairless; the bract scales are about half the length of the seed scales. The seeds have thick membranous long wings, which are nearly as long as the seed scales.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in mountain forests at an altitude of 700-2600m.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction 9-15g. For external use: appropriate amount, fresh product, decocted in water for washing; or mashed and applied.

[Discussions by various scholars] "Xinhua Compendium of Materia Medica": Root bark: spicy, warm in nature. It has the functions of removing blood stasis, reducing swelling and setting bones. Used for injuries from falls, fractures, sores, lacquer sores, etc. Decoction in water, drink with wine, and apply externally in appropriate amount.
