[Source] Medicinal material source: the petals and leaves of the Sophora japonica plant of the Melastomataceae family.

[Original form] Shrubs or climbing shrubs, sometimes vine-like, 1-4m high. Branchlets quadrangular, glabrous. Leaves opposite; petiole extremely short or absent; leaf blade hard papery, ovate, lanceolate-ovate or elliptic, 10-21cm long, 3.8-11cm wide, apex acuminate, base cordate, oblique, rarely obtuse, entire or with fine shallow serrations, both sides densely covered with small protuberances, or the front side covered with sparse coarse procumbent hairs and grain chaff; basal veins 3-5. The inflorescence is composed of a panicle, terminal; the pedicel is about 0.5mm long; the calyx is cup-shaped, about 4mm long, densely covered with small protrusions, with wavy edges and inconspicuous lobes; there are 4 petals, pink, broadly ovate, obtuse or nearly acute at the apex, 4.5mm long and 3.5mm wide; there are 8 stamens, equal in length, with filaments about 3mm long, and the small tubercles at the base of the anthers connected to the connective to form a spur; the ovary is inferior, 4-chambered, oblate, truncate at the apex, entire, and with septa. The berry is spherical, 4-5mm long, 4mm in diameter, truncate at the apex, disc-shaped, and the seed bridge is cuneate with small protuberances. Flowers bloom from April to June, and fruiting occurs around October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in valleys at an altitude of 200-1250m, in sparse and dense forests on hillsides, and in moist places beside streams and roadsides.
