[Original form] Rock shepherd's purse is a biennial or perennial herb, 20-40cm tall. The whole plant is hairless. Stems numerous, ascending or erect, branched. The leaves are more or less fleshy, with basal leaves cordate or kidney-shaped, 7-12mm long, 8-18mm wide, obtuse at the apex, cordate at the base, and entire; petioles are up to 5cm long; leaves at the lower part of the stem are the same shape as the basal leaves but smaller, with shorter petioles; leaves in the middle or upper part of the stem are ovate or nearly circular, 5-15mm long, cuneate at the base, clasping the stem, with 1-2 teeth on the margin. The raceme is initially contracted and then elongated; sepals are elliptical; petals are 4, obovate, 4-5mm long, white and fragrant; stamens are 6; pistil is 1, ovary is 2-chambered, style is short, with capitate stigma. The short siliques are ovate or round, 3-5mm long, loosely arranged, cracked, with a raised midrib and reticular veins. There are 2-4 seeds in each chamber, which are oval, slightly flattened, reddish brown, and have blunt tubercle-like protrusions. The flowering period is April and the fruiting period is May.

[Habitat distribution] Native to northwestern Europe and the Alps. It is cultivated in our country.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; slightly warm

【Functions and indications】Relieve rheumatism and strengthen the spleen and stomach. It is used for rheumatic pain, gout, indigestion, toothache, lockjaw, and scurvy.

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: drink the juice, 6-10g of fresh leaves; or decoct in water.
