[Original form] An upright, slightly branched shrub. The stem is cylindrical, 0.5 to 1.5 meters high, and light green. The base of the petiole has a pair of short and sharp spines; the leaves are opposite, leathery, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, 9 to 14 cm long, shiny, with deep wavy teeth on the edge, and the teeth are thorn-like; the petiole is less than 1 cm long. The spike inflorescence is terminal, solitary, dense or intermittent; the flower is about 4 cm long, supported by 1 bract and 2 similar bracteoles; the bracts are ovate, green, tightly adherent, 7-8 mm long; there are 4 sepals, green, 1-1.2 cm long; the corolla tube is about 1 cm long, the upper lip is degenerate, the lower lip is light blue, expanded or curved outward, and covered with hairs inside; there are 4 stamens, the filaments are short and thick, and the anthers are 1-chambered with bundles of hairs; the ovary is superior, 2-chambered, and the style is short and 2-lobed. The capsule is 2 to 2.5 cm long. Flowering period is from spring to autumn.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in coastal areas where tides can reach. Distributed in southern my country.

[Chemical composition] The roots and stems contain flavonoids, phenols and amino acids.
