[Original form] 1. The bench fruit is an evergreen subshrub, 30-50cm high. The lower part is creeping, with whisker-like adventitious roots, the upper part is upright, with leaves in the upper half, and the lower half is naked, with only sparse, detachable small scales. The rhizome is long and the branches are covered with very uniform, fine, short hairs. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 2-4cm long and covered with fine hairs; leaves vary in shape, either ovate, elliptical-ovate, wider, with a shallow cordate or truncated base, or oblong, ovate-oblong, narrower, with a rounded base, generally 5-8cm long, 3-5cm wide, with acute apex, coarse teeth above the middle of the margin, midrib flat on the leaf surface, convex on the back, with very fine nipples on the back, densely covered with fine short soft hairs. Flowers are unisexual, monoecious, spikes are axillary, 1-2cm long, erect, often drooping before opening, with axial and bracts covered with short soft hairs; flowers are white or rose-colored; there are 5-10 male flowers, without pedicels, almost occupying the entire inflorescence axis; there are 1-3 female flowers, growing at the base of the inflorescence axis; male flowers: bracts ovate; sepals elliptic or oblong, 2-3mm long; anthers oblong, bowing downward after pollination, sterile pistils short columnar, swollen at the tip; female flowers: including stalks nearly 4mm long; sepals are imbricately arranged, ovate-lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, 2-3mm long; glabrous; style extends out of the flower very long after pollination, and spirals at the upper end.
