[Source] Medicinal material source: It is the root of Toxicodendronsylvestris (Sieb. et Zucc.) O. Kuntze, a plant of the Anacardiaceae family.

[Original form] Fraxinus chinensis is a deciduous tree or small tree, up to 10m tall. Young branches and winter buds are covered with yellow-brown hairs, and the bark is gray-brown. Odd-pinnate compound leaves are alternate, with 7-13 leaflets, rarely 7 pairs, rachis and petiole cylindrical, petiole 4-8cm long; leaflets are opposite, with short petioles or nearly sessile, ovate or ovate-elliptic or oblong, 4-10cm long, 2-4cm wide, acuminate or acute at apex, asymmetrical base, rounded or broadly cuneate, entire, pubescent or nearly glabrous above, densely yellow pubescent below; lateral veins 15-25 pairs, raised on both sides, veinlets slightly raised on the back. The panicles are axillary, 8-15cm long, densely covered with rusty hairs, and the peduncle is 1.5-3cm long; the flowers are yellow, small, and unisexual; the pedicels are 1.5mm long and covered with curled pubescence; there are 5 calyxes and 5 petals; there are 5 stamens, the filaments are linear, and the anthers are ovate; the disk is glabrous; the ovary is spherical, with 1 chamber and 3 styles. The drupe is obliquely oblate, flattened, longer than wide, about 8mm long and 6-7mm wide, with a thin, shiny, glabrous exocarp that does not crack when ripe, a waxy mesocarp, and a hard core.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in forests at an altitude of 140-2300m.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; astringent; warm; slightly toxic

【Functions and indications】Removing blood stasis, relieving pain and stopping bleeding. Mainly used for rheumatic back pain; traumatic injury; bleeding from knife wounds; poisonous snake bites

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount, mash and apply; or soak in wine and apply.
