Simple leaves are opposite; petioles are brown, 3-4mm long; leaves are papery, oblong or narrowly oblong, 7-16cm long, 2.5-5.5cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, cuneate at the base, with all edges serrated with comb-like serrations, glands at the tooth tips, glabrous, and with small brown-red spots on the underside. The inflorescence is axillary, dichotomously branched, and the peduncle is 5-10mm long; the bracts are small; the flowers are sessile, and 2-3 flowers are born at the top of the inflorescence branches; the calyx is spherical, 3-5mm long, with 6-7 lobes, triangular; the petals are usually 6-7, white or light red, ovate, nearly as long as the calyx, twice as long as the calyx lobes, arranged in 2 whorls, the outer whorl alternates with the calyx lobes, the inner whorl is attached to the sepals, usually with claws, and small teeth on the edges; there are 14 or 7 stamens, born on the petals, if there are only 7 stamens, there are no stamens on the inner whorl of petals; the ovary is inferior, with 5 chambers. Style shorter than calyx; stigma discoid, 4-lobed. The fruit is spherical, with a diameter of 6-7mm. Flowering period is November-December.
