[Source] This product is the whole herb of Rostellularia procumbens (L.) Ness, a plant of the Acanthaceae family. Collected in summer and autumn, used fresh or sun-dried.

【Nature and flavor】 Slightly bitter, cold.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies, promotes diuresis and reduces swelling, and prevents malaria. Used for colds and fever, malaria, sore throat, infantile malnutrition, dysentery, enteritis, nephritic edema, urinary tract infection, and chyluria; used externally to treat carbuncles, furunculosis, and bruises.

[Usage and Dosage] 0.5-1 liang; for external use, mash the fresh product and apply to the affected area.

[Remarks] (1) It is used for exogenous fever, cough, and sore throat. It can be used together with dandelion, white safflower, wild chrysanthemum, loquat leaf, etc. It can be used for edema caused by nephritis in children. One to two taels of fresh grass can be used every day, decocted and taken continuously. After the swelling subsides, the treatment can be adjusted according to the syndrome differentiation. For the treatment of malaria, you can use one liang of this product (or three liang of fresh grass) alone, decoct it and take it 3 to 4 hours before the onset of malaria. For carbuncle, swelling, or sprains, the herb can be boiled into a decoction for oral administration or mashed for external application.
