[Original form] Long-haired sunflower is a perennial herb, 0.5-2m tall. The whole plant is covered with long, stiff yellow hairs, 5-6mm long. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 4-12cm long, densely covered with long yellow stiff hairs; stipules are linear, 1.5-3cm long, densely covered with long yellow stiff hairs; leaves at the lower part of the stem are round, about 9cm in diameter, with 5 shallow lobes; leaves in the middle part of the stem are cordate, with coarse teeth; leaves at the upper part of the stem are sagittal, 6-14cm long; both sides are densely covered with long stiff hairs, sparsely covered with long bristles or stellate long bristles along the veins. Flowers are terminal or axillary, 3-9 flowers are arranged in racemes, pedicels are 1-1.5cm long, densely covered with long yellow stiff hairs; bracteoles are 15-20, linear, 2-3.5cm long, 1-2mm wide, densely covered with long yellow stiff hairs; calyx is spathe-shaped, longer than bracteoles, densely covered with long yellow stiff hairs; flowers are yellow, about 13cm in diameter, petals are 5-8cm long; stamens and styles are about 2cm long; style branches are 5, and stigma is flat. The capsule is nearly spherical, about 3 cm in diameter and 3-4 cm long, densely covered with long yellow stiff hairs, with many seeds, kidney-shaped, and papillary veins. The flowering period is from May to September, and the fruiting period is from September to November.
