Do you know about the Maiboshu? It is a common medicinal material. It is generally used as raw material in many places. It can also treat many physical diseases. Let’s take a look at the relevant knowledge about the Maiboshu.

[Source] Medicinal material source: bark and cupules of Cyclobalanopsis glauca and Cyclobalanopsis glauca of Fagaceae family.

[Original morphology] 1. The twigs are densely covered with yellow-brown hairs, gradually becoming hairless or covered with thin hairs. Leaves are alternate; petiole 1-2cm long, pubescent; leaf blade oblong-lanceolate to oblong, 9-18(-24)cm long, 4-7(-9)cm wide, with obtuse or short obtuse apex, rounded or broadly cuneate base, more than 1/3 of margin with obtuse serrations, midrib flat or slightly raised above, 10-14 pairs of lateral veins, distinct lateral veins below, densely covered with yellow-brown pubescent hairs on both sides when young, easily shedding pubescent hairs or glabrous below when old. The male inflorescences are clustered near the top of the branches, 5-8 cm long; the female inflorescences are solitary, 2-5 cm long, rarely up to 7 cm. The cupule is disc-shaped, with varying depths, 2.5-3.8 cm in diameter and 5-8 mm in height. It is covered with grayish yellow or gray soft hairs. The bracteoles merge to form 7-11 concentric rings with fine teeth or entire margins. The nut is oblate, 2-2.8cm in diameter, 7-12mm high, with a concave or flat tip and a convex base, covered with silky gray short soft hairs, and a slightly convex navel, 1-2cm in diameter. The flowering period is from March to May, and the fruiting period is from October to November of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: 1. Growing in sparse mountain forests at an altitude of 160-1800m.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; astringent; warm

【Functions and indications】Astringent to the intestines and stop diarrhea; detoxification; antimalarial. Mainly diarrhea; malaria

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g.
