[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of the Lamiaceae plant Salvia officinalis.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 100-125cm high. The whole plant is covered with flattened pubescent hairs at the bottom. Leaves opposite; petiole longer than or equal to leaf blade; leaf blade ovate-oblong, densely pubescent; bracts at base of inflorescence branches smaller than stem leaves, 2-4cm long, elliptic or oblong, apex long acuminate, base cordate or cuneate, margin dentate, short-stalked or sessile. Inflorescence is in whorls, with 6 flowers in each whorl, forming a terminal raceme of 10-12 whorls; bracts are ovate, shorter than calyx; pedicels are about half the length of calyx; calyx is 10-12mm long and two-lipped; corolla is yellow, with beautiful and fine patterns and spots on the brim, the corolla tube is extremely protruding, the brim is two-lipped, the upper lip is sickle-shaped, the lower lip is 3-lobed, and the middle lobe is broadly obovate; there are 2 fertile stamens, and the filaments are slightly shorter than the connective; the style extends out of the corolla, and the tip is unequally fissured. The nutlets are oval, brown, with large black net patterns. Flowering period is from June to August.

[Habitat distribution] Distributed in Xinjiang and Qinghai.
