[Look at the color] Authentic Cordyceps sinensis is divided into two parts, the "worm" and the "grass". The surface of the "worm" is dark yellow to light yellow-brown. At the junction of the worm and the grass, the color of most worm bodies will change to a certain extent. The "grass" part, or the fruiting body, is the color of dead branches and is darker in color.

[Look at the appearance] The authentic Cordyceps sinensis has 8 pairs of legs on the ventral side, and the 4 pairs located in the middle of the insect body are very obvious. The stroma grows from the head of the insect body and is slightly swollen at the top. It can be up to 4-7 cm long and about 0.3 cm in diameter.

[Look at the cross-section] The authentic Cordyceps sinensis has obvious lines when it is broken open. There is a black core similar to a "V" shape in the middle of the Cordyceps, and some may also be a black dot. This black core is actually the worm's digestive line.

[Smell] Genuine Cordyceps sinensis has a slight smell of dry and rotten insects and a mixture of straw mushrooms.
