[Original form] Blue flower seed is an annual or biennial herb. The plant is 30-80cm tall and has sparse white soft hairs. The main root is slender and thick, but not fleshy and hypertrophic, and the lateral roots are well developed. The stem is erect, cylindrical, sparsely hairy and branched. The leaves are slightly powdery, with many basal leaves, large-headed and pinnately divided, 5-15cm long and 2-5cm wide, with large, oblong apical lobes and 2-3 pairs of lateral lobes arranged alternately; the stem leaves are small, broadly elliptic or broadly lanceolate. The raceme is terminal, with large flowers; 4 petals; 4 petals, light pink or light purple, broadly obovate, about 2 cm long, with long claws at the base, and the petals have purple veins; 6 stamens, 4 long and 2 short; 1 pistil, ovary awl-shaped, stigma capitate. The silique is cylindrical, 4-6cm long, with nearly leathery lobes and spongy septa. The fruit is bead-like due to the constriction between the seeds, and has a slender beak at the tip. The seeds are oblate, light brown, with a reticular surface. The flowering and fruiting period is March to May.

[Habitat distribution] It is cultivated in Sichuan, Yunnan, Hunan, Zhejiang, Guangxi and Taiwan.

【Properties】 Characteristics identification: The seeds are oblate, with a diameter of 3-4mm. The surface is light brown with a reticular texture, and a dot-like hilum can be seen at one end. After peeling, two thick cotyledons can be seen, which are rich in oil and overlap each other, and the radicle is located between the cotyledons. It has a faint smell and a slightly bitter taste.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; sweet; neutral

【Meridian】 Lung; Stomach meridian

【Functions and indications】 Helps digestion and relieves fullness; resolves phlegm and lowers qi. Chest and abdomen distension caused by food accumulation; indigestion; cough with lots of sputum

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 6-15g; or made into pills or powder.
