[Other names] Pleurotus eryngii, elm ear, elm mushroom

[Source] Medicinal material source: the fruiting bodies of Pleurotus eryngii, Pleurotus whitish-yellow and Pleurotus ash-white of the Trichoderma family.

[Original morphology] 1. The cap of Pleurotus elmi is fleshy and 11-15cm wide. Hemispherical, gradually flattened, with a smooth lid surface, white at first, then turning to Buddha's hand yellow or brown in the center, often with reticular cracks; the lid edge is wavy. The flesh is thick and white. The gills are curved, wide, sparse, and white to light yellowish brown. The stipe is eccentric, 4-10cm long, 1-2cm thick, equally thick or swollen at the base, white with a slight yellowish tint, densely covered with soft hairs, medium solid, and often curved. Spore print white. Spores are spherical or nearly spherical, colorless, smooth, and 5-6 μm in diameter.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: 1. Pleurotus elmii grows on elm trees and other broad-leaved trees.

[Properties] Identification of properties (1) The cap of Pleurotus elmifolius is semi-angular or flat, 7-15 cm in diameter, orange-yellow in the middle, with wavy and light yellow edges, smooth surface, sometimes cracked; fleshy. The flesh is thick and white. The gills are wide, sparse, white or off-white. The stipe is eccentric, often curved, 4-9cm long, about 2cm in diameter, white or light yellow, densely velvety on the surface, and solid in the middle. Slight odor, light taste.

[Chemical composition] Pleurotus eryngii contains galactomannan, glycogen and 1→3-branched glucan. Pleurotus eryngii contains hemagglutinin.

[Pharmacological action] 1. Antibacterial elm ear fruiting body extract can inhibit the growth of pathogens such as Shigella dysenteriae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis.

【Functions and indications】Nourish and strengthen; stop diarrhea. It is used to treat weakness and atrophy, dysentery, and emphysema.
