[Source] Medicinal material source: The fruit kernel of Mangifera indica L., a plant of the Anacardiaceae family.

[Original form] Mango is a large evergreen tree, 10-20m high. The bark is gray-brown, the twigs are brown and glabrous. Single leaves grow in clusters at the top of branches; petiole 2-6cm long; leaf shape and size vary greatly, thin leathery, usually oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 12-30cm long, 3.5-6.5cm wide, apex acuminate, long acuminate or acute, base cuneate or nearly rounded, margin wrinkled and wavy, glabrous, leaf surface slightly shiny; lateral veins 20-25 pairs, obliquely ascending, raised on both sides, reticulate veins inconspicuous. The panicle is 20-25cm long, with many flowers densely packed and pubescent; the flowers are small, polygamous, yellow or light yellow; the sepals are 5, ovate-lanceolate, 2.5-3mm long, about 1.5mm wide, and pubescent; the petals are 5, about twice as long as the calyx; the disk is fleshy and 5-lobed; the stamens are 5, only 1 of which is developed, about 2.5mm long, and the anthers are oval; the filaments are very short; the ovary is obliquely ovate, about 1.5mm in diameter, glabrous, and the style is nearly terminal and about 2.5mm long. The drupe is oval or kidney-shaped, slightly flat, 5-10cm long, 3-4.5cm wide, yellow when ripe, with fleshy, thick, bright yellow mesocarp, sweet taste, and hard core. The flowering period is March-April, and the fruiting period is July-August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on hillsides, river valleys or wilderness forests at an altitude of 200-1350m.

[Properties] Identification of properties: This product is oblate and oval, 5-8cm long, 3-4.5cm wide and 1-2cm thick. The surface is yellowish white or grayish brown, with several oblique veins (endocarp vascular bundles) and villous fibers, and is tough. The center is raised, and the edge is flat and thin on one side and rounded and blunt on the other side. The texture is hard, and the seeds inside make sounds when shaken; when broken open, the inner surface is yellowish-white and smooth, with one seed inside; the seed coat is thin, membranous, translucent, and easy to detach; the seed kernel is yellowish-white, thick, and kidney-shaped. It has a faint smell and a slightly sour and astringent taste. The best ones are those that are uniform, full, and yellowish-white in color.

[Chemical composition] The kernel contains fat, mainly saturated glycerides, monoolein, diolein, and triunsaturated glycerides. Its fatty acid composition is: stearic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, arachidic acid and a small amount of myristic acid. It also contains sitosterol and starch. The seeds contain oxycyanic acid.
