[Original form] Bloodleaf Orchid, perennial herb, 10-25cm tall. The rhizome is fleshy, creeping, elongated, thick, with obvious internodes, like a silkworm lying on a stone, usually purple-red or yellow-green. There are 2-4 leaves alternate at the base of the stem; the leaves are ovate or ovate-oblong, 3-7cm long, 2-3cm wide, dark green or purple-red on the upper side, red on the back, and the 5 longitudinal veins and the reticulate veins are all red or golden yellow. The racemes have 2-10 flowers. The flowers are white or pink, with a light pink boat-shaped bract at the base; the middle sepal is nearly spoon-shaped, the lateral sepals are elliptical, and both are 8mm long; the petals are the same length as the middle sepals and are close together to form a hood; the lip is curved, with a sac-like spur at the base, and the front end extends like two wings; the ovary is covered with short soft hairs.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in the shade and moist places under forests at an altitude of 950-1000m or on moist rocks in ravines.

【Properties】 Identification of properties: The whole plant is 10-20cm long. The rhizome is elongated and silkworm-like, fleshy, about 3mm in diameter, with a grayish-yellow surface, longitudinal wrinkles, distinct nodes, and remnants of membranous or dried-up hairy leaf sheaths. The roots are short, slightly stout, and covered with dense, villi-like root hairs. The leaves are alternate, papery, mostly curled, ovate-elliptical when flattened, 2-5cm long, 1-2cm wide, gray-green or dark red; the petioles are elongated into membranous sheaths, embracing the stem. It has a faint smell and a light, slightly astringent taste. The ones with bright colors and thick thickness are preferred.
