[Source] Medicinal material source: the stems and leaves of the Rhamnaceae plant.

[Original form] Vietnamese sedge is a climbing shrub, up to 10m tall. The stem is cylindrical with longitudinal stripes. The twigs are often curled at the tips, and the twigs and inflorescence axis are glabrous. Single and sometimes alternate; stipules are large, 2 in number, leaf-shaped, toothed, clasping the stem, with sharp serrations on the margins; leaf blades are leathery ovate or ovate-oblong, 4-10cm long, 2.5-6cm wide, with acute or acuminate apex, rounded or slightly cordate base, wavy margins or shallowly toothed, green above, glabrous, light green on the back, with sparse hairs along the veins, 5-6 pairs of lateral veins, with parallel veinlets between them. The racemes are axillary or terminal, with small, polygamous flowers; the bracts are relatively large; the calyx is 5-lobed; the petals are 5; the disk is 5-lobed, extending beyond the ovary, so that the calyx tube and the upper part of the ovary are completely fused. The capsule is round, about 1 cm in diameter, with a persistent calyx at the tip and three wings. The flowering period is spring and the fruiting period is summer.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in the edge of forests in mountains and open places or sparse woods.

[Cultivation] Biological characteristics: It prefers tropical and subtropical climates, likes light, and can be grown in general soil.

【Functions and indications】 Cools blood and detoxifies; relaxes muscles and activates collaterals. Numbness of the main limbs; burns; sores; traumatic bleeding

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g. For external use: Take appropriate amount, crush the fresh product and apply; or crush it and soak it in cold boiled water, take the liquid and apply it.
