[Source] Medicinal material source: The leaves of Euonymus maackii Rupr., a plant of the Celastraceae family.

[Original form] Silk cotton tree is a deciduous shrub or small tree, with a height of up to 8m. The twigs are slender, slightly quadrangular, and the young branches are sparsely covered with soft hairs. Simple leaves are opposite; petiole is 1-3.5cm long; leaf blade is hard and papery, elliptic-ovate to ovate, 4-10cm long, 3-6cm wide, with long acuminate tip, finely serrated edges, and base is broadly cuneate or nearly rounded. The cymes are axillary, branched 1-2 times, with a peduncle 1-2 cm long, 3-7 flowers, yellow-green, 4-digitate, about 8 mm in diameter; petals are elliptical, anthers are purple, almost as long as filaments, disk is hypertrophy, ovary and disk are fused. The capsule is pink, deeply cracked into four sharp edges, about 1 cm in diameter, and splits into four lobes when mature. The seeds are pale yellow with a red aril. The flowering period is May-June, and the fruiting period is September-October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on the edge of hillside forests, foothills, and beside mountain streams.

[Chemical composition] The leaves contain quercetrin, iso-quercitrin, quercimeritrin, quercetin-3-α-L-rhamnosyl-7-β-D-glucoside, quercetin-3-α-L-rhamnosyl-7-β-D-glucoside, quercetin-3-α-D-xylo-7-β-D-glucoside and quercetin-3,7-diglucoside.
