[Source] Medicinal material source: The fruit of Sarcococca ruscifolia Stapf, a plant of the Buxaceae family.

[Original form] Wild fan flower is an evergreen shrub, 1-4m tall. It has a well-developed fibrous root system. The branches are densely distributed, and the twigs are densely or sparsely pubescent. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 3-6mm long; leaf blades are broadly elliptic-ovate, ovate, elliptic-lanceolate, lanceolate or narrowly lanceolate in appearance, 2-7cm long, 7-30mm wide, with great variation, but commonly ovate or elliptic-lanceolate, 3.5-5.5cm long, 10-25mm wide, with acute or acuminate apex, acute or acuminate or rounded base, generally wider in the middle or below the middle, bright green above, light green below, midrib convex, glabrous, sparsely covered with fine hairs; most midribs have a pair of alternate or opposite lateral veins near the base, more or less tertile, midrib slightly flat or convex on the dorsal surface. Flowers are unisexual, monoecious, inflorescence short racemose, 1-2cm long, inflorescence axis covered with fine hairs; bracts lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate; flowers are white and fragrant; male flowers are 2-7, occupying most of the upper part of the inflorescence axis, usually the lower male flowers have a pedicel about 2mm long, with 2 bracteoles, bracteoles ovate, 1/3-2/3 of the length of sepals, the upper male flowers are nearly sessile, some are without bracteoles, sepals are 4 (also 3 or 5), the inner square is broadly elliptic in shape, broadly ovate, rounded at the apex, with small cilia, 3-3.5mm long, filaments are white, about 6mm long, anthers are yellow, attached to the back, sterile pistils are small and flat; female flowers are 2-5, born in the lower part of the inflorescence axis, with a stalk 6-8mm long, with multiple bracts on the stalk, narrowly ovate, imbricately arranged, sepals 6, 1.5-2mm long, ovary ovate-oblong, 3 branches. The drupe is spherical, 7-8mm in diameter, scarlet to dark red when ripe, with 3 or 2 persistent flower stalks, 2mm long. The flowering and fruiting period is from October to February of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on hillsides, under forests or in valleys at an altitude of 200-2600m, and also cultivated.

【Functions and indications】Nourishes the liver and calms the mind. Mainly used for dizziness, blurred vision, palpitations, and restless sleep

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3-9g.
