[Source] Medicinal material source: the roots and leaves of Viburnum hainanensis, a plant of the Caprifoliaceae family.

[Original form] Hainan Viburnum is an evergreen shrub, up to 3m tall. The current year's branches are square, and together with the petioles and inflorescences, they are covered with yellow-brown stellate hairs. The biennial branches are purple-brown or gray-brown, cylindrical, and glabrous. Leaves opposite; petiole 3-6mm long; leaves sub-leathery, leaf blade oblong, broadly oblong, needle-shaped or elliptic, 3.5-7cm long, 1.5-4cm wide, apex short or pointed, base broadly cuneate or sometimes rounded, entire or with 2-3 pairs of sparse small teeth above the middle, slightly shiny above, glabrous on both sides or with prominent hairs on the midrib and lateral veins below, with black or chestnut brown glandular dots; 4-5 pairs of lateral veins, one pair at the base elongated and tricerous from the base, veinlets nearly in horizontal rows, prominent above. The summer umbel form is a terminal cyme with a diameter of 2-4cm, a short peduncle, and 4-5 first-level radiating branches; the flowers are fragrant; they grow on the second-3rd-level radiating branches; the calyx tube is about 1mm long, the calyx margin has 5 fine teeth, the corolla is white, radial, and about 4mm in diameter; there are 5 stamens, which are higher than the corolla. The drupe is oval, 4-6mm long and 4-5mm wide. It is red when ripe and appears flattened. The core is oblate, convex on the back and deeply concave on the ventral side. The flowering period is from April to July, and the fruiting period is from August to December.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in thickets or jungles at an altitude of 600-1400m.
