[Source] It is the whole herb of the Ranunculaceae plant Allium foeniculum . Harvested in summer, often used fresh or dried.

[Original form] Perennial herb. The stem is 15 to 50 cm high, and both the stem and the petiole have extended yellowish rough hairs. Trifoliate leaves, basal and lower leaves with long petioles; leaf blade broadly ovate, 2.6-7.5 cm long, central leaflet with long petiole, 3 deeply lobed, lobes narrow and long, with a few irregular serrations on the upper part, lateral leaflets with short petioles, unequally 2 or 3 lobes; leaves on the upper part of the stem gradually become smaller. Inflorescence with sparse flowers; sepals 5, light green, boat-shaped, about 4 mm long, sparsely pubescent on the outside; petals 5, yellow, broadly obovate, about 3.2 mm long, with nectar groove at base; stamens and carpels are numerous. The aggregate fruit is nearly rectangular, about 1 cm long; the achenes are flat and glabrous.

[Habitat distribution] Growing by streams or in wet grasslands. Distributed in Yunnan, Tibet, Guangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hubei, Gansu, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, North China and Northeast China.

[Properties and flavors] ① "Commonly used folk herbs in Kunming": "Slightly warm in nature, bitter and spicy in taste, slightly toxic."

【Functions and indications】 Anti-inflammatory, anti-swelling, anti-malarial, and insecticidal. Treat hepatitis, ascites due to cirrhosis, malaria, leprosy, and psoriasis.

[Usage and Dosage] For external use: mash and apply to form foam, squeeze the juice and apply or boil in water for washing. For internal use: decoct in water, 1 to 3 qian.

[Additional prescription] ① For treating hepatitis and acute icteric hepatitis: 3 grams of water bayberry, 1 gram of bitter horseweed, and steamed water tofu for consumption; for chronic hepatitis, cook water bayberry with brown sugar.

[Clinical Application] Treatment of hepatitis and cirrhosis: Take the whole fresh herb, wash off the dirt, mash it in a mortar and apply it on acupuncture points. The diameter of each acupoint is 5 to 6 cm, the thickness of the medicine is 1 cm, and the medicine surface is fixed with gauze. Remove it after 12 hours, and you will see local redness and swelling, which will gradually form blisters. When a large blister is formed, use a syringe to draw out the yellow water, then apply gauze and allow it to heal on its own (it takes about 7 to 8 days). 1 to 2 acupoints can be applied each time, generally 1 to 3 times, with an interval of half a month to 20 days between each application. The second application can be on the same acupoints as the first application, or other acupoints can be selected. For acute jaundice, the liver area and Zhongwan are taken, and Chinese medicine for bile secretion is added; for non-jaundice, the liver area, Zhongwan and Zusanli are taken; for chronic hepatitis, the liver area, Zhongwan, Zusanli and Sanyinjiao are taken; for cirrhosis with abnormal vas deferens function, the liver area, spleen area, Zhongwan and Zusanli are taken, and Chinese medicine for liver soothing is added as appropriate; for cirrhosis with ascites, the water point, Guanyuan, Qihai and Zhongwan are taken. A total of 25 cases of acute icteric and non-icteric hepatitis and 94 cases of chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis were observed. The results were normal in 45 cases (clinical symptoms completely disappeared and liver function returned to normal), improved in 42 cases (clinical symptoms significantly improved or some symptoms disappeared, liver function was close to normal or some items were normal), no change in 5 cases, and deterioration in 2 cases. Generally, you will feel a burning sensation on the local skin 2 to 4 hours after application, followed by a tightening feeling in the liver, followed by relief of liver pain; on the next day, after local blistering, you will experience intestinal rumbling, increased urination, reduced abdominal distension, and a significantly improved appetite. There were 28 cases of liver cirrhosis with ascites. After treatment, the ascites disappeared in 10 cases, significantly subsided in 4 cases, and remained unchanged in 14 cases. Ascites is discharged through urine. The fastest increase in urine volume occurs on the day of application, and generally the patient's urine volume begins to increase after 3 to 5 days. The clinical symptoms caused by cirrhosis include lower limb or systemic edema, and gastrointestinal symptoms. The vast majority of patients have shown varying degrees of improvement, and some patients have completely disappeared. The liver function of some patients has returned to normal after treatment. Side effects: local pain; some patients feel weak for the first few days after applying the medicine; some patients experience dry mouth, which disappears quickly.
