[Source] It is the roots and leaves of Rubus crassifolia, a plant of the Rosaceae family. Available all year round.

[Original morphology] Climbing shrub; the whole plant is densely covered with rusty hairs, and the branches, petioles and inflorescence stalks have small hooked spines. The leaves are simple and alternate, cordate-ovate or cordate-round, of very different sizes, 5-15 cm in diameter, with 3-7 irregular shallow lobes, the lobes are usually obtuse and have irregular small teeth, the base is auricular-cordate, green above, covered with coarse hairs and small round bubble-shaped protrusions or flat, light yellow with green below, densely covered with gray or rusty cotton hairs and long soft hairs, the veins are rusty, with 5-7 basal veins; the petiole is 3-4 cm long; the stipules are large, 2 in number, deeply pinnately lobed or irregularly torn. The flowers are white, in terminal and axillary panicles or racemes, a few are axillary capitulums, with light yellow hairs; the bracts are large and stipule-like. The aggregate fruit is nearly spherical, about 1.5 cm in diameter, fleshy, and bright red when ripe. Flowering period is from July to August. The fruiting period is from November to December.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on hillsides, hills, roadsides, and bushes in the wilderness. Distributed in Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan, Guizhou, Jiangxi and other places.

[Properties and flavors] Guangzhou Army's "Handbook of Commonly Used Chinese Herbal Medicines": "sweet, mild, neutral."

【Functions and indications】 Guangzhou Army "Handbook of Commonly Used Chinese Herbal Medicines": "It can activate blood circulation, remove blood stasis, clear away heat and stop bleeding. It can treat acute and chronic hepatitis, hepatosplenomegaly, march hemoglobinuria, mastitis, traumatic bleeding, and stomatitis."

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5 to 1 liang. For external use: grind into powder and sprinkle or boil in water and gargle.

[Clinical Application] Treatment of halophilic bacteria food poisoning: 71 cases of this disease caused by eating salty yellow mud snails were observed. The patients generally had headaches, chills and fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration; some cases had bloody stools, and 2 cases had mild shock. All were cured after taking a decoction of 1.5 liang of Rubus coarse-leaved and 0.5 liang of ginger (the dosage should be reduced for the elderly, young or old and those with mild illnesses). Among them, 66 cases were cured after taking one dose, and 6 cases were cured after taking two doses.
