[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole plant of Citronella truncatula of the Citronaceae family.

[Original form] Deciduous shrub or small tree, 3-14m high. The bark is gray-brown; it has short branches, and the new branches grow from last year's short branches. They are red when young and gray-brown when old. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 2-3mm long and red; leaf blades are papery, ovate or oblong, 3.5-7cm long, 2-4.5cm wide, with nearly caudate or long pointed apex, rounded base, rarely slightly concave or broadly cuneate, green above, light green below, black above, light yellow-brown below when dry; 4-5 pairs of lateral veins, slightly red. The flowers are sessile, 2-9 flowers arranged in a spike-like spiral cyme, with a peduncle 1-2.5cm long, red, and can grow to 4-5cm when fruiting; the calyx tube is cup-shaped, with 4-5 small calyx teeth; the corolla is bell-shaped or broadly bell-shaped, white or light yellow, with 4-5 small teeth at the tip, rolled outward, with 4-5 stamens, attached to the corolla tube, and each stamen of the corolla has a bundle of short hairs at the lower part; the ovary is half buried in the disk, with 3 chambers in the lower part and 1 chamber in the upper part; the stigma extends out of the corolla tube. The nut is oval or oblong, and when mature is almost completely surrounded by the calyx tube that has enlarged into a pot-shaped shape. The outside of the enlarged calyx tube is purple-red, and the base is supported by a slightly swollen "base". Flowers and leaves bloom together. The flowering period is from March to May, and the fruiting period is from April to June.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in dense or sparse forests in valleys, ditches, hillsides, and roadsides at an altitude of 300-2600m.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 30-60g. For external use: Take appropriate amount of fresh leaves and mash them for application.
