The efficacy and function of Dingtianzhu

Dingtianzhu, its full scientific name is "Rejuvenating Grass".

Perennial herb. The stem is creeping, with the upper end nearly standing, and adventitious roots grow from each node at the tip, 15-50 cm long, about 2 mm in diameter at the tip, branched, with broad grooves, sparsely covered with short rough hairs or without hairs at the bottom. The leaves are sessile, elliptic, oblong or linear, 3-7 cm long, 7-13 mm wide, narrow at the tip, mucronate or obtuse at the apex, entire or with 1-3 pairs of sparsely coarse teeth, sparsely appressed short rough hairs on both sides, midrib prominent above or sometimes inconspicuous. It is slightly raised below, with 1-2 pairs of lateral veins, usually only the one pair from the base below is obvious, and there are no reticular veins.

The capitula are very few, 15-20mm in diameter, solitary at the top of branches or in petioles; the capitula is 3-10cm long, covered with short coarse hairs; the involucre is bell-shaped, about 1cm wide and 12mm long; the involucre has 2 layers, the surface layer is emerald green, elliptical, 10-12mm long, obtuse or plump at the top, the back is sparsely covered with short coarse hairs, the inner layer is smaller, long annular, 6-7mm long, pointed at the top, with marginal hairs on the upper part; the palate is telescoped into a linear shape, about 6mm long, without hairs, gradually pointed at the top, and sometimes with 3 shallow cracks. There is one layer of ligulate flowers, which are light yellow in color. The tongue is ovate and long-ring-shaped, about 8 mm long, with 2-3 deep cracks at the top. The tube is thin and short, and is 1/5 of the length of the tongue. There are many tubular flowers, light yellow, about 5mm long, nearly bell-shaped, gradually expanding upwards, with 5 lobes at the eaves, and the lobes are ovate and obtuse. Achenes are obovate, about 4mm long, with many verrucous protrusions, slightly contracted at the top, and ligulate achenes with three sides and thickened edges. There is no pappus, but there is a finely serrated pappus ring. Flowering period is March to September.
