[Source] Medicinal material source: The stem of the pig's ear palm of the Cactaceae family.

[Original form] Tree-like, up to 4m high, with a long cylindrical wooden trunk. Old trunks are thornless or have thorns. Branching is dichotomous; lateral branches extend horizontally and are cylindrical; nodes of apical branches are flat and leaf-like; young nodes are extremely thin, only 1.5-3mm thick, wrinkled and somewhat twisted, and easily fall off during drought; small nests are scattered on the nodes, usually with 1-2 thorns. The leaves are small and fall early. The flowers are borne at the upper part of the stem nodes, 5-5.5 cm long, with yellow petals, oblong, blunt tip and very short filaments. The berry is spherical, yellow when ripe, juicy, 3-4 cm in diameter, with sparse and large small nests, a very shallow or nearly truncated hilum at the tip, and a few densely woolly seeds inside.

[Habitat distribution] Native to South America, distributed and cultivated in Guangxi.

[Chemical composition] The slurry of the whole plant contains polysaccharides, which are composed of arabinose, galactose, rhamnose, galacturonic acid and a small amount of xylose [1].

【Functions and indications】 Softening and dispersing lumps. Mainly used for abdominal masses

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: mash and steam, 15-30g.
