[Source] It is the pine root in the middle of the sclerotium of Poria cocos, a plant of the Polyporaceae family.

【Original morphology】 The plant morphology is detailed in the "Poria" entry.

[Properties] Most of the Poria wood is a crooked pine root with residual Poria on the outside, which is white or grayish white in color and woody inside. It is loose in texture, light in body and without bark, slightly similar to rotten wood.

[Preparation] Chop the Poria wood into small pieces or grind it into powder.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, neutral.

【Functions and indications】Calming the liver and soothing the mind. It is used to treat palpitations, forgetfulness, aphasia caused by stroke, and beriberi and cramps.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral administration: decoct in water, 2 to 3 qian; or make into powder.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat beriberi with coldness affecting tendons, cramps and pains: pine knot (take the heart of the root of Poria cocos and grind it into rice size) 1 liang, frankincense 1 qian (crushed). Fry until charred, leaving only one or two parts of its properties, remove the fire poison, and grind into powder. Take one to two coins each time, mixed with hot papaya wine.
