[Source] It is the branch bark or stem bark of Juglans mandshurica, a plant of the Juglandaceae family. Harvest in spring and autumn, peel off the branch bark or stem bark, and dry it in the sun. [Habitat distribution] Produced in Henan, Hebei, Shaanxi, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Gansu and other places. [Properties] The dry bark of the branches is often twisted into a rope or a single roll, with varying lengths, up to more than 1 meter. 1 to 2 mm thick. The outer surface is light gray-brown, smooth with knotty longitudinal stripes, and has a few light brown round protruding lenticels and triangular leaf scars. The inner surface is dark brown, smooth and has fine longitudinal lines. It is tough, not easy to break, easy to crack longitudinally, and has a fibrous cross section. No smell, taste slightly bitter and astringent. The water extract is light yellow-brown and does not show fluorescence. [Chemical composition] The bark, leaves and outer shell contain glycosides and a large amount of tannins. The leaves contain 6.25-9.35% tannin. [Preparation] Wash, soak, cut into pieces and dry in the sun. 【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, cold. 【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, detoxifies, stops diarrhea, and improves eyesight. Treat diarrhea, dysentery, leucorrhea, and red eyes. [Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 1.5 to 3 qian. For external use: decoct in water and wash eyes. [Additional prescription] ① For the treatment of enteritis and dysentery: 3 grams each of walnut peel, whiteheada, and phellodendron, and 1 gram of coptis root. Decoction in water.
