[Original form] Large-leaved Phellodendron amurense is an evergreen shrub, 1.5-2m tall. The stem is erect and strong. Pinnate compound leaves, usually with 9-15 leaflets, or more; leaflets are leathery, ovate or oblong, about 7 cm long, 4.5 cm wide, acuminate at the apex, curled at the margins, with 2-7 large thorn-like serrations, and without petioles. The racemes grow in clusters at the top of the stem, nearly erect; the flowers are yellow and slightly drooping; the pedicels are thin and short. The berries are oval, with persistent stigma at the tip, dark blue when ripe, and covered with white powder.
