【Other Names】 Mint, Mountain Mint

[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole plant of Labiatae plant of the Lamiaceae family.

[Original form] Lip vanilla, perennial herb, 15-30cm high. The whole plant has a strong minty aroma. Root wood. The stem is clustered from the base, has four edges, is purple on the surface, and has short soft hairs. Leaves opposite; this one short petiole; leaf blade oblong or broadly lanceolate, entire, 0.5-2cm long, 0.3-1cm wide, with glandular dots. The cyme is terminal and capitate; the calyx tube is 5-7mm long; the corolla is lip-shaped, 10-12mm long, and covered with short soft hairs. Bluish purple. The nutlets are long oval.

【Habitat distribution】Ecological environment: grows in low and humid places.

[Properties] Identification of properties: the stem is square columnar, 10-35cm long, 2-3mm in diameter, yellow-green in surface, often with purple-red, usually covered with hairs; the cross section is light yellow-green with a small pore in the center. The leaves are opposite and mostly fall off. When the intact ones are flattened, they are broadly lanceolate, ovate or oblong, 0.5-2cm long and 0.3-1cm wide. The leaf surface is slightly gray-green with obvious glandular dots; the petiole is short, the cyme is terminal and spherical; the flowers mostly fall off, and the calyx is tubular. 5-7mm long, corolla lip-shaped, lavender or pink, 10-12mm long, covered with short soft hairs. There are small nuts in between, which are long and oval. It has a fragrant aroma and tastes spicy, cool and slightly bitter.

[Chemical composition] The above-ground part contains flavonoids: luteolin, linarin, 7-methylsudachitin, chrysin-7-O-rutinoside, caffeic acid, methy4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxybenzoate, oleanolic acid, and diosmin.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; Cool in nature

【Functions and indications】Calming the mind and soothing the nerves; promoting diuresis and clearing away heat. It is used for palpitations, insomnia, edema, fever due to cold, red and swollen eyes, and sores.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 15-18g; or brew with boiling water as tea. For external use: decoct appropriate amount in water for washing.
