The leaves at the base are smaller; the lower leaves are elliptic or oblong-spatulate, 5-18cm long, 1.4-4cm wide, obtuse or nearly rounded at the apex, gradually narrowed at the bottom into a short petiole with wings, and sparsely or densely shallow teeth on the margin; the leaves in the middle and upper parts are oblong or linear-lanceolate, 2-6cm long, 0.3-2cm wide, pointed or rounded at the apex, narrow or rounded at the base and semi-amplexicaul, with sparse teeth, entire margin, densely coarse hairs on both sides or above, and densely long hairs along the veins below; the midrib is thick, and there are 4-6 pairs of lateral veins. There are 2-6 or sometimes 8 capitulums arranged in corymbs; peduncle 1.5-7cm long, with linear or linear-lanceolate bracts; involucre hemispherical; 2-3 layers of involucral bracts, outer layer 7-10mm long, with sparse coarse hairs on the back; inner layer 10-11mm long, glabrous on the back or with hairs only along the midrib and purple-green top, with broad membranous long margins on each layer; about 20 ligulate flowers, with lavender ligules; tubular flowers yellow-green with sparse short hairs; style lobes linear-lanceolate; 2 layers of pappus, outer layer very short, white, inner light reddish brown, with slightly rough hairs of unequal length.
