[Source] It is the bulb of Lycoris radiata, a plant of the Amaryllis family. Dig up in spring and autumn, remove the seedlings, leaves and soil, and dry them in the sun.

[Original form] Perennial herb. The bulb is enlarged, nearly spherical, about 5 cm in diameter, and covered with dark brown bulb skin. The leaves are basal, thick, broadly linear, gradually narrowing at the top, up to 60 cm long and about 1.5 cm wide, shiny yellow-green above and gray-green below, with the midrib concave above and raised below, and the veins and base of the leaf blade purplish-red. The flower stalk emerges before the leaves grow, and is 30 to 60 cm high; the umbel has 5 to 10 flowers, which are relatively large, slightly symmetrical, about 7 cm long, with a tube less than 2 cm long, petiolate, yellow or orange, 6 tepals, slightly wrinkled edges, about 1 cm wide; 6 stamens, extending out of the tepals together with the style; the ovary is inferior, 3-chambered. Capsule, with several seeds in each locule. Flowering period is summer. Fruiting season: autumn.

[Habitat distribution] It grows on moist rocks and in fertile soil under cliffs. Distributed in Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangsu, Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Yunnan and other places.

[Properties and flavors] "Sichuan Chinese Materia Medica": "Slightly warm in nature, pungent and sweet in taste, and toxic."

【Functions and indications】Relieve sore toxins, eliminate carbuncle and swelling, and kill insects. Treat carbuncle, furuncle, tuberculosis, burns from hot water or fire.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 2 to 4 qian per day; or made into powder. For external use: mash and apply or mash and apply juice.
