[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Pseudocerma scabra of the Asteraceae family.

[Original morphology] Pseudocerma scabra is a climbing herbaceous vine or woody at the base. The stem is cylindrical, 3-5m long or sometimes up to 7m long, much branched, grooved, glabrous or with rusty short soft hairs on young branches, the hairs on the inflorescence axis are denser, and the upper internodes are 4-9cm long. The leaves are sessile or have short petioles 3-5mm long; the leaf blades are ovate-oblong or narrowly elliptic, 5-8cm long, 2-3.5cm wide, with a narrow base, usually rounded, a short pointed apex, sparsely punctately serrated edges, glabrous on both sides or sparsely pubescent, the hairs on the underside of young leaves are denser, the midrib is flat on the upper side and slightly convex on the lower side, with 5-7 pairs of lateral veins, arcuately ascending, and obvious reticular veins. There are many capitulums, 5-8mm in diameter, arranged in dense panicles at the top of axillary branches, and most of the small panicles are arranged into large panicles with leaves, with a 5-10mm long inflorescence stalk; the involucre is bell-shaped or cylindrical, about 7mm long, with 5-7 layers of involucre; the receptacle is flat, 2-3mm in diameter, and covered with dense white soft hairs; the flowers are yellow; the female flowers are numerous, tubular, about 8mm long, slightly enlarged at the base, with 2-4 teeth on the eaves; the corolla of bisexual flowers is tubular, with anthers extending out of the corolla about 1cm long, gradually expanding upwards, and with 5 teeth on the eaves. Achenes are cylindrical, with 10 ribs, hairy, about 1.5mm long; crown is rough and hairy, about 6mm long. Flowering period is from January to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown on the edge of forests, in hillside thickets or dense forests, often seen on roadsides and streams.

【Nature and flavor】 Slightly bitter; slightly warm

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind and dampness; disperse blood stasis and stop bleeding. It is used for pain due to wind-heat, metrorrhagia due to blood stasis, swelling and pain due to falls, carbuncle, furuncle and scabies.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
