[Original form] Macrophylla is a woody climbing vine, up to 10m long. Branches glabrous, turning light brown when dry. The leaves are leathery, with transparent glandular dots, oblong or ovate-oblong, rarely elliptic, 12-17cm long, 4-9cm wide, with short acuminate apex, oblique cordate base, rounded and often overlapping ears, glabrous above, sparsely pubescent beneath, pinnate veins, but with 5 obvious palmate veins at the base, the uppermost pair emanating from the midrib 5-8cm away from the base; petiole short, 2-5mm long on one side, 6-10mm long on the other, pubescent; sheath 2-3mm long. Flowers are unisexual, dioecious, gathered into spikes opposite the leaves, male inflorescence about 10cm long; peduncle 1-1.5cm long, glabrous; inflorescence axis hairy; bracts broadly obovate, peltate, ciliate; stamens 2, anther 2-chambered, filaments hypertrophy, about 1.2mm long; female inflorescence nearly equal in length to male inflorescence, elongated and thickened in fruiting period; inflorescence axis densely hairy; bracts obovate-oblong, attached to the inflorescence axis above, separated only by the edges, peltate, ciliate; ovary ovate, stigma 4, short pointed at apex. The berry is nearly spherical, about 5mm in diameter, and the stalk is nearly the same length as the fruit. Flowering period is from August to December.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in dense forests, climbing on trees or rocks.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The stems and branches are cylindrical, the surface is light brown with fine longitudinal stripes, the leaves are slightly curled, leathery, the leaves are oblong or ovate-oblong, 10-16cm long, 3-8cm wide, oblique on both sides of the base, often with overlapping ears, the back of the leaves are sparsely pubescent; the petioles are short and pubescent. Sometimes spike inflorescences can be seen, with the axis of the inflorescence hairy. Fragrant smell, spicy taste.
