[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole plant of Verbenaceae with roots.

[Original form] Gray-haired indigo, shrub, 1-3.5m high. The whole plant is densely covered with flat or inverted gray-brown long hairs. The twigs are slightly quadrangular, with loose pith and not hollow after drying. Simple leaves are opposite; petiole is 1.5-12cm long; leaf blade is thick papery, nearly cordate, broadly ovate or ovate, 6-18cm long, 4-15cm wide, acuminate at apex, nearly cordate or truncate at base, serrated or entire at margin, pubescent on both sides, densely covered with gray-brown flat pubescent on veins. The inflorescence is densely packed into a head, often with 2-5 branches growing at the top of the stem; the bracts are leaf-like, ovate or elliptic; the calyx is bell-shaped, about 1.3 cm long, with soft hairs, changing from green to red, with 5 angular edges and sparse glandular dots, 5 deep lobes reaching the middle of the calyx, the lobes are broadly ovate or ovate, gradually pointed; the corolla is white or light red, with glandular hairs or soft hairs on the outside, the corolla tube is slender, about 2 mm long, with 5 lobes, obovate-oblong, flattened outward, 5-6 mm long; there are 4 stamens, extending out of the corolla together with the style. The drupe is nearly spherical, about 7mm in diameter, and purple-black when ripe. Hidden in the red enlarged persistent calyx. Flowering and fruiting period is from April to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on hillside roadsides or in sparse woods at an altitude of 220-880m.
