The efficacy and function of goat ears

[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Coral Grass of the Chrysanthemiaceae family.

[Original form] Hainan coral grass is an evergreen semi-shrub, 1-1.5cm high. Stem erect, glabrous. Leaves are opposite; petioles are 0.5-2cm long, fused at the base to form a sheath; stipules are small and subulate; leaf blades are papery, elliptic, broadly elliptic to oblong, 8-20cm long, 3-8cm wide, with acute acuminate apex, broadly cuneate base, with obtuse serrations on the margins, entire near the base, with a gland at the tip of the teeth, 5-7 pairs of lateral veins, slightly convex on both sides. The spike inflorescence is terminal, with few branches and opposite; the bracts are triangular or ovate; there is one stamen, the connective is flattened dorsiventrally into an ovate shape, with a slightly concave tip; there are two anthers, the connective is almost the same length as the connective, and they are lateral; the ovary is ovate, without style, and the stigma has small dots; the drupe is ovate, about 4mm long, green when young, and orange-red when ripe; the flowering period is from October to May of the following year, and the fruiting period is from March to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: in the shade and moist places under forests in valleys.

[Properties] The identification of properties is similar to that of the Sargassum sylvestris, with the main difference being that the leaves are mostly thin and papery, with shallow and blunt teeth on the edges. The stem pith is relatively large and not hollow.

[Identification] Microscopic identification of stem cross section: similar to that of Thunbergia sylvestris, but stone cells are occasionally seen on the inner side of the cortex; the number of vascular bundles is slightly less; the primary rays are 5-9 rows of cells wide. There are groups of stone cells in the medulla, which are polygonal or quasi-circular.

【Functions and indications】Promote blood circulation and dissipate blood stasis; dispel wind and relieve pain. Mainly used for traumatic injuries; fractures; swelling and pain due to blood stasis; rheumatic pain; limb numbness, etc.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 9-15g; or soak in wine. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
