[Source] Medicinal material source: The tuberous root of Grape oleraceus, a plant of the Vitaceae family.

[Original form] A woody vine of the palm-leaved grape. Roots fusiform or lumpy. The branches are slender, with obvious lenticels, glabrous or with fine hairs, and the young branches are slightly lavender. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 2-4cm long; leaf blade is palmately 3-5-lobed, sometimes 3-lobed, broadly ovate, 6-10cm long, 7-10cm wide, with irregular coarse teeth on the edge, dark green and smooth above, light green below, glabrous or with only fine hairs on the main and lateral veins when young; middle lobe is rhombic, 6-10cm long, 3-7cm wide, acuminate at the apex, broadly cuneate at the base; lateral lobes are obliquely ovate and slightly shorter. Flowers are bisexual, with small cymes and peduncles 4-7cm long, straight or winding; calyx is small; petals are 5, rarely 4; stamens are 5; disk is attached to ovary; ovary is superior, 2-chambered. The berries are spherical to oblate, about 7mm in diameter, and orange-yellow in color. The flowering period is June and the fruit ripening period is September-October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in hillside thickets or on steep cliffs below 1500m above sea level.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; cold; slightly toxic

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and resolves phlegm; detoxifies and resolves stagnation. It is used for fever, headache, stomachache, dysentery, carbuncle, and phlegm nodules.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3-6g. For external use: take appropriate amount, mash, grind into slurry or grind into powder for application.
