Leaves are alternate and have long petioles; leaf blades are incompletely bipartite and ternate, with lobes narrowly obovate or narrowly ovate-oblong. Racemes grow at branch tops; bracts ovate-oblong; sepals 2, caducous. There are 4 petals, which are lavender or blue, of varying sizes, and lip-shaped, with the upper lip having spurs and opposite the lower lip; 6 stamens; 1 pistil, which is linear. Capsule fusiform, short columnar. The flowering period is from April to May, and the fruiting period is from June to July.
