[Source] This product is the dried root of Aristolochia fangchi YCWu ex LD Chou et SM Hwang, a plant of the Aristolochiaceae family . Dig up in autumn and winter, wash, cut into sections, cut the thick root into two pieces longitudinally, and dry in the sun.

[Properties] This product is cylindrical or semi-cylindrical, slightly curved, 6 to 18 cm long and 1.5 to 4.5 cm in diameter. The surface is gray-brown, rough, and has longitudinal grooves; after the rough skin is removed, it is light yellow and has traces of knife scraping. It is heavy, solid, not easy to break, floury in cross section, with radial texture of gray-brown and off-white colors arranged continuously. Odorless, bitter taste.

【Identification】 (1) Cross section of this product: The cork layer consists of 10 to 15 rows of cells. The inner layer of the cork is composed of 3 to 5 rows of cells. The stone cell ring is connected to the inner layer of the cork, and there are multiple rows of thin-walled cells underneath. Phloem rays broad; sieve tube groups wrinkled; a few stone cells scattered. The cambium ring is not very obvious. The xylem rays are more than 20 to 30 rows of cells wide; the vessels are relatively large, with a diameter of 45 to 220 μm; the wood fiber bundles are located next to the vessels, with a fiber diameter of about 20 μm and thick walls. The thin-walled cells contain starch granules, and some contain calcium oxalate clusters.
