[Original form] Perilla frutescens, annual herb, 0.5-2m tall. The stem is erect, obtusely quadrangular, four-grooved, densely covered with long soft hairs. Leaves are opposite; petioles are 3-5cm long, flattened dorsally and ventrally, densely covered with long soft hairs; leaf blades are broadly ovate or broadly cuneate, with coarse serrations on the margins above the base, green or purple on both sides, and sparsely covered with soft hairs on the upper side. The cymes are 2-flowered, 1.5-15cm long, densely pubescent, terminal and axillary racemes on one side of the vine; bracts are broadly ovate or nearly circular with reddish-brown glandular dots on the outside, and membranous on the edges; pedicels are densely pubescent; calyx is bell-shaped, 10-veined, pubescent at the bottom, with yellow glandular dots, and a sparse pubescent ring at the inner throat, and the fruit is enlarged, the calyx mast is 2-lipped, the upper lip is broad, 3-toothed, the middle tooth is smaller, the lower lip is slightly longer than the upper lip, 2-toothed, and the teeth are lanceolate; the corolla is usually white, the crown tube is short, the crown brim is nearly 2-lipped, the upper lip is slightly emarginate, the lower part is 3-lobed, and the middle lobe is larger; there are 4 stamens, the front pair is slightly longer, free, inserted in the throat, and the anthers are 2-chambered; the tip of the style is 2-lobed; the front of the disk is finger-shaped and swollen. The nutlets are nearly spherical and have reticulate patterns. The flowering period is from August to November, and the fruiting period is from August to December.
