The cyme has 4-6 flowers, which are sparse and form a terminal pseudoraceme. The inflorescence is covered with glandular hairs or long soft hairs; it is 2-lipped, with the upper lip triangular and the lower lip 2 shallowly lobed; the corolla is blue-purple, 2.5-3cm long, and the middle lobe of the lower lip is obcordate; the filaments are 3mm long, the connective is 6-10mm long, the upper arm is about 2 times longer than the lower arm, and the anther chamber of the lower arm is degenerated and enlarged and united at the apex. [Properties] Characteristic identification: the rhizome is short and thick, with a rough surface, densely packed leaves, and residual stem base and petiole base. Root veins are hammer-shaped, 1 to several, in clusters or attached to one side of the rhizome, 5-18cm long, 2-7mm in diameter, occasionally up to 1cm; the branches of the lateral roots become thinner. The surface is brick red or dark reddish brown, with longitudinal shrinkage lines and visible root fibrous marks; the cork of old roots is gray-brown or brown-brown, and falls off in scales, revealing reddish-brown new cork.
