[Source] Medicinal material source: The young branches of the broad-leaved cypress of the Tamarix family.

[Original form] A multi-branched upright shrub, about 2 meters high. Old branches are reddish brown or gray-brown, while branches of the current year are grayish white or yellow-gray and smooth. The leaves are sparse, spreading, broadly ovate or elliptical, 7-12mm long and 3-8mm wide, with a rounded or broadly cuneate base that does not embrace the stem; there are many green twigs in the leaf axils, and the leaves on the twigs are smaller. The racemes are lateral, rarely terminal, 9-14cm long, with numerous imbricate scales at the base; bracts are broadly ovate or elliptic, with broad membranous margins; pedicels are about 2mm long; sepals are 5, oblong or ovate-lanceolate, slightly shorter than petals; petals are 5, obovate, pink, 5-6mm long, stamens are 10, filaments are fused 2/3; ovary is ovate-round, capsule is conical, about 10mm long. There are many seeds, which are oblong and have long white hairs on the awn at the tip. The flowering period is from April to June, and the fruiting period is from July to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown on sandy beaches, sand slopes and depressions between moving sand dunes.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The twigs are cylindrical, with a grayish white and smooth surface. It is brittle and easy to break, with a yellow-white pith in the center of the cross section.
